Beijing 2006

Daddy and Mommy was in Beijing recently. Revisited Forbidden City and managed to view more exhibits than before. Three and a half hours is still not sufficient to cover all grounds. sigh.


Empress Cixi's opera theatre, her favourite past time. She probably needs a pair of binoculars from where she sits (from where this photo is taken).

There was a tiny Well located in a little corner at the back of the Forbidden City where it was rumoured the Emperor's favourite Concubine Zhen was pushed down by Empress Cixi's trusted Eunuch. How sad. How cruel. A shrine was built next to it to remember her.

Gigantic warrior suits worn by commandors belonging to the Eight Banners. (Mommy thinks she will tremble if there should be a real warrior standing right in front of her). The beautiful grey piece was worn by Emperor Kang Xi. He must be very tall.

Beijing is still very much the same as two years ago. Roads are still congested with even more cars now. Shopping is still very much the same - same products, same old places but renovated and cleaner. clap clap. Sales staff speak English and other European languages. clap. clap.

Daddy and Mommy savoured melt-in-the-mouth Beijing Roast Duck at two restaurants - XiHe YaJu Restaurant set in a Beijing Courtyard dwelling in Chao Yang District; Made in China Restaurant at Grand Hyatt Hotel, the latter being slightly better. Must try! oh well if you are wondering, the famous 150-year-old Quan Ju De Beijing Roast Duck can't beat these two.

It was a relaxing holiday (for Mommy, ha ha, yes she slept through the nights too!) and pleasant flight with impeccable service from smiley slim women with bright blue eyeshadow.

Mommy came home with a luggage full of clothes and toys for Grace and Yu.
