Today is the Primary 1 orientation of Grace's new school for 2006. At 8.30am, the Principal gave a short but comprehensive speech to hundreds of excited parents (including Mommy and Daddy) who were seated in the air-conditioned school hall. (Just a note : the sound system is good too considering no echoes in the big hall)
Oh, Mommy and Daddy and Yu were seated on the first row. Grace and her new classmates were then led to their respective lassrooms for some story-telling sessions with the form teacher.
This is an all-girls school. Mommy's first choice no doubt.
Mommy was happy to hear from the Principal that the school not only emphasise academic achievement but also stress on character building and moral development. This is what we need for every child nowadays!
And another good news is that the school tuckshop does not serve deep-fried food. Hooray! No fried chicken wings, no french fries for my gals. Now Mommy and Daddy are assured Grace will have a healthy diet even in school. Every Wednesday is extra fruits day. Good idea.
One last important thing that the Principal announced was that there will not be any exams for Primary One students. hooray! hooray! very good news indeed. The school emphasise on continuous learning and of course parents and teachers will monitor child's work. Mommy has absolutely no problem with that. One of the purpose is to let the child develop self-confidence while adjusting to school life in the first year. Mommy agrees that in this way, the teachers will have more time spent teaching the children instead of marking papers and more papers.
Hope Grace will like her new school and new classmates. Wonder if she will be able to make friends with the other 29 or 299 gals?
